About Tandem Mobility:
Tandem is a rapidly growing startup with a unique community focused approach to micromobility. Like our name implies we want to serve as trusted advisors to our partner cities, collaborating with them to ensure successful bike share and scooter programs. We are teamed up with Movatic, a premium software platform that enables users to rent bikes, scooters, and other assets and allows cities and operators to seamlessly manage their micromobility systems.
About this Position:
We’re looking to hire an enthusiastic individual with a passion for bikes, your community, and sustainable transportation. Your primary role will be building bikes and stations for our Portland bike share, and running the day to day operations with the assistance of our Operations Manager. The share will consist of 150 pedal bikes and 50 ebikes. You and your team will keep the operation running smoothly.
The role will be full time, with a required 40 hours of work per week. You will report directly to our Director
Of Operations.
Primary Responsibilities prior to launch:
Managing the team of local full time and part time mechanics.
Receiving freight deliveries of bikes and stations.
Ensuring that the items received match the bill of lading.
Building bikes from a box.
Building stations.
Executing the ops plan to launch on time with all bikes and stations built, and ready to launch on time.
Daily/weekly check-ins with the Ops team.
Primary Responsibilities after launch:
Ensuring all bikes receive routine maintenance every two weeks.
Ensure daily battery swaps are done for the e bikes that need charged batteries.
Performing in field maintenance on pedal bikes, and ebikes.
Performing more complex repairs in the ops space.
Ordering parts as needed to minimize downtime for each bike.
Scheduling the team to be sure the daily/weekly/month objectives are met.
Acting as the local Point of Contact for the city and sponsors.
Participating in city/sponsor events as needed.
Rebalancing bikes as needed.
Requirements:
Mechanical
We are not necessarily looking for a master mechanic with every tool, but we need someone who can do quality, safe, and repeatable work. We want somebody who holds themselves to a high standard: proactively identifying issues, creating plans for resolution, and escalating any parts or additional requests in a timely manner to the Warehouse Manager.
Ability to lift and transport several 40 pound bikes depending on need.
Ability to use a smartphone and camera to communicate over phone calls, text, email.
Ability to travel and transport bikes between locations as necessary.
Professional:
Ability to keep oneself accountable to a set of goals, and schedule themselves accordingly.
Strong communication skills, willingness to communicate status updates and context.
Flexibility to work with varying schedules and workloads.
Detail focused and good judgment/common sense, able to make some decisions on one's own without full information.
Able to think critically and proactively about what Tandem HQ might need or want to know, not just answering our questions and responding to our requests.
Able to be a professional and friendly public face for Tandem while out and about.
